Week 9
In the ninth week I learned about gerunds and infinitives. A gerund is a verb that ends in -ing, like playing or studying, and an infinitive is to + the base form of the verb, like to play or to study. Before this lesson, I often got confused because I didn’t always know which form I needed after certain verbs. In class, I learned that some verbs are followed by a gerund, for example enjoy reading, and other verbs are followed by an infinitive, like want to learn.
We practiced many examples, and this helped me understand the difference more clearly. I realized that choosing between a gerund or an infinitive can change the meaning or make a sentence sound correct. This topic was very helpful for me because I want to use verbs correctly when I speak and write. Now I feel more confident using gerunds and infinitives in different situations.
